Post Team Mexico #4472 Ready For The King Of The Hammers 2011

2011 Griffin King of the Hammers Official Starting Order Draw Announced

Greg Adler has a lot to celebrate in 2011, not only is his company 4 Wheel Parts observing 50 years in the 4 wheel drive parts and accessories business, the CEO and closed course off-road racer has also drawn the pole position for the 5th running of the Griffin Radiator King of the Hammers (KOH), slated for February 11, 2011. 4WP, the title sponsor for the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), played host to the KOH drawing party on January 4th at its Compton Headquarters, and Adler joked with Ultra4 Series Official Exhaust Dynomax driver, Bob Willis, about drawing the polar opposite, last starting position at 100.

The top 20 starting spots are stacked with the heavy hitters of Ultra4 Racing, with David Smiley, the winner of the Badlands qualifier, and Stan Haynes, 2nd at Badlands, in a rematch in the 19th and 20th spot. Kevin Sacalas, 2009 Ultra4 Vegas to Reno winner and reigning Ultra4 Grand Slam Champion, and “King” Loren Healy, SMORR Qualifier winner Lucas Murphy, RCQ winner Derek West will all be set up for a dual of event winners in the Top 20. Consistent Rocksports finisher Roger Lovell, Formula 4x4 Nation Champion Ragnar Robertsson from Iceland, 2009 Rock-crawling and Rock-racing Champion Brad Lovell, who missed the 2010 KOH win by 28 seconds, will be an exciting match up of teams that possess the ability to win KOH. Lastly, Australian Ultra4 racer Ben Napier, who is fresh off a third place finish in the Stampede, and Rocksports icon Tracy Jordan join Adler in the Top 20.
To mix up the field even further, the 4 fastest Last Chance Qualifiers will run in the top 20. No one knows who will grab these spots, but the LCQ field includes a two-time podium winner at KOH Casey Currie, experienced KOH racer Greg Hussey, XRRA’s Brian Shirley, Joey Archuleta and Rusty Bray round out an extremely fast field of LCQ participants.

The 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers will take place from Feb 6th-11th and will feature a full week of race action. The 4 Wheel Parts LCQ will split racing between two days on Tuesday, Feb 8th and Wednesday, Feb 9th. A giant interactive vendor show will be running the entire week, and will be the highlight of the Thursday, Feb 10th contingency. Ultra4 racecars will be on display for technical inspection the entire day. In addition, Thursday will emphasize the Pitbull UTV race on a 40-mile course. KOH features a full week of action, from seminars, to the Raceline Show and Shine, to the Blue Ribbon Coalition Most Prepared Rig contest, to enjoyment of the Johnson Valley trails. Meet the drivers, see the newest 4 wheel drive related products, and see some of the most exciting off-road racing on the planet from multiple safe spectator viewing areas.

Red face Directions to the king of the hammers - GPS CORDINATES

    Tusen Takk Rockstar

JBT. is this you Jacob from Sweden? If so I sent you an email, see you out there. Whole new team. Gulf Coast Crawl Shop will be pitting, along with BFG, GOODYEAR, and Baja Pits. The ultra 4 rig gets only 2.5 gallons per mile, so we will be doing alot of refueling to finish the 120 mile course. Also we will be taking our own fuel from Texas, the California fuel will mess up the buggies fuel system.

Heia Jørn, here are the directions:
Mojave Desert, Southern California. 20 miles West of Yucca Valley and 20 miles East of Lucerne Valley on state highway 247. To Boone Rd. (which is an unimproved graded dirt road. N34.24.70, W 116.43.45). Drive North, off of Hwy. 247, approx. 7 miles to Means Dry Lake (N 34.24.74, W 116.30.99). The link below is a general map of the area (we will be camped off of Means Dry Lake): http://ohvguide.com/maps/johnsonvalleygps.htm

    Default Norway at KOH 2012

    Tommy,

From what I have analyzed and learned from the Norwegian motorsports, I know that any norwegian team that goes to participate the King of the hammers will place in the top 5

Default Interesting Statistics about the King of the Hammers 2011

Statistics about the King of the Hammers 2011

Some interesting statistics about this year's KING OF THE HAMMERS 2011

Starters 1-24 did not advance on their starting position.

Dean Bulloch passed more people than anyone (76) to get to 20th place. Hussey passed the 2nd most (68) and didn't top 20. Shannon passed 61.

Ponce/Gutwillig TEAM MEXICO #4472 were the only team to start and end in the same position (spot #37.) Team Mexico had very limited resources which included only 4 good 37" Sticky tires, no beadlocks, no gps, and no radio communications gear to report back to their pit area. No prerunning was done.

Starting position vs finish by groups
    1-10 4 DNF, 6 top 20, 4 top 10
    11-20 8 DNF, No top 20
    21-30 6 DNF, 2 top 20
    31-40 3 DNF, 4 top 20, 3 top 10 (Team Bongo Mexico started here in 37 spot)
    41-50 4 DNF, 3 top 20, 2 top 10
    51-60 5 DNF, 2 top 20
61-70 3 DNF, 2 top 20 (Shannon Campbell started here on spot 62)
    71-80 6 DNF
    81-90 6 DNF
    91-100 8 DNF, 1 top 20

The biggest cluster of DNFs was starting positions 12-23; Only 1 finished from that group and lost 24 positions.

Starting positions 64-95 had no top 20 finishers
    Best finish by row goes to #18 Ferravanti (6) & Scherer (3), 2nd best was row #1 Adler (5) & Jordan (8)
14 rows both drivers didn't finish, 11 rows both drivers did finish
Rows 34 & 35 were the only subsequent rows to finish (Adams, Haines, Currie, Carter) but none of them finished in the top 20
Casie Currie barely made the cut off with only 1:39 min left before the cut off time of 9pm (you only get 14 hours to race). Casey started in 2 and ended up in 47th.
Brad Lovell started in 7th spot and did not finish, his brother Roger started 9th and finished 17th.

Top 20 finishers of 2011 KOH qualified through:
    2 former winners
    7 others from Top 20 of 2010

King of the Hammers 2011 International Guest Star Teams
Ponce and Gutwillig from Team Mexico, Fabio Manno from Italy, Ben Napier from Australia, Ragnar Robertsson from Iceland, and Curtis Warner from Canada, and 2 other teams from Germany and Ireland but they did not show or did not either pass the first tech, not really sure. KOH has 2 techs.
Only Team Australia and Mexico finished in the allowed time. Italy finished after the cut off.

Only 1 from the OG13, who could have also used alternate forms of entry
2 Sponsor Entries Dynomax and 4Wheel Parts
    5 from the Stampede
    1 from the Grand Slam
    3 LCQ'ers

For the finishers of 21st on:
    4 more Top 20 of 2010
    3 more Stampede
    2 more OG13
    2 Harlan qualifiers
    1 RCQ'r
    3 from SMORR
    5 more LCQ'ers
    1 International
    1 more Grand Slam
and 5 that I'm not sure how they qualified
    Analysis done by Crawl Mag
