I see that you use mb123 springs or front springs from saab 99/900, on which axels do you use this? is`nt it different springs on the front and rear axel on the niva?

I edited those previous replys little...

That -88 has MB W123 front springs in front.
There is three types of those springs, all the same size except length.
U have to cut the spring so it´s max. 320mm long.

That -79 uses Saab 99/900 rear springs in front.
There are three types of that spring also, difference is in spring stiffness.
All three type of those springs is suitable for Nivas front without modification.

Roxy

ok, but what springs do you use on the rear axel?

Roxy

sorry, I misread. Now I see that you used spring spacers

Min livshistorie: Thefinger

Hey, that blue one belonging to NMK was frightening identical to mine, well except for a couple of rounds with polish! Thefinger

What is it that you have done with the rear suspension setup, can I glimpse an axle truss?

This is the final from me (for now;) )

VAZ-Crawler, based on VAZ 2121 -90. At the moment it´s just a body and big pile of parts to put in. So it´s UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

It´s going to have:
- Volvo b21 engine (~2,5l)
- two manual gearbox
- Suzuki transfer case
- HJ-60 axels
- Y-link front and 4-link rear
- 37x12,5-16 Maxxis Creepy Crawlers with beadlock wheels.
- exocage and so on...

Damn, so you possess seven of these bugs? Got me beat. grnpirate

You know, that last thing you brought up is exactly what I've been wanting to do with my blue pile - no kidding! What are you doing for frame/chassis to mount all the drivetrain and suspension hardware to? Any guesstimates on wheelbase, belly height, outside tire width, etc. yet?

Don't hesitate about putting up a couple of more pictures or making a build thread! :)

Just a little change for the 4-link setup, new control arms with unibals - no need for panhard anymore.

I do that frame of the body almost entirely from tube.

Wheelbase is going to be about 2500mm. So it´s 300mm longer than original.
I testfitted that wheelbase with 35" to get the idea:

http://www.kotikone.fi/toveriniva/images/temp/VAZ-Crawler%207.jpg

I try to keep the belly height in about 700mm.

Tire width U can calculate yourself :D
HJ-60 axel width is 1480mm, rims are 8x16" ET -32 with beadlocks and tires is 37x12,5-16.

no need for panhard anymore.
So the factory-spec triangulation built into the upper links is sufficient to locate the axle laterally?

So the factory-spec triangulation built into the upper links is sufficient to locate the axle laterally?

My rear 4-link is now like this |V|, upper links are in 45 decrees angle and that keeps the rear axel centered, like in Range Rover.
No woble or anything else bad, it´s working fine, even on the road when I go max. speed 100km/h :D :D

ARH

Cool, any specific reason for deleting the Panhard?

Technically, the Range Rover (as I know it, Mk1) have a rear 3-link with a wishbone-style upper link, while you on the other hand, have four (two triangulated uppers, making up for the lateral forces) independent bars - making it a 4-link.

I experimented many different setup with panhard and just couldn´t get it work properly so I did it without panhard :)

And yes I know that the RR rear setup is with 3 point attachment in axel making it a 3-link technically. I was just comparing the axel lining without panhard Thefinger
