roll cage question

hi guys, hello lasse,


a good friend and proto driver from germany has an advise about the roll cage rules.

please have a look at the picture below:


the roll cage is not build like the eurotrial rules say.

in my opinion there is no question about stability and safety. this cage will withstand rollovers and flips like the "eurotrial cages"....

he thought about building a new proto car with a roll cage like this, but it is not allowed at the moment. (A-bar + B-bar)



maybe you could talk about this opportunity at the ET meeting at the weekend!?

The only issue I see with that cage is sideways stability. It needs an X-brace from the main hoop to the frame and preferably a diagonal or X-brace in the roof as well.
Other than that i fully agree - different designs should be allowed as long as they are structurally equal or better than the ET regulations.

I totally agree... a x-bar behind the seats and a cross for the roof is necessary.

There are lots of cages around europe (spain, france ...) which are not ET approved although they are as stable as the allowed cages... another example: the US rock bouncer... they used hundreds of tubes for their buggys, are beefy like hell, but are not permitted to compete...

It´s already in the rules that a car with only two sidebars MUST have an X behind the seats...

of course, thats correct, i know.... but this is not the Point right now



in this case the main bar goes from A-pillar to C-pillar... and that is not allowed at the moment.... is there any useful reason why it is forbidden?... exept for " it´s written in the rules"
